Motorcyclists will take to their bikes this weekend for a charity ride in St Albans.

Herts Air Ambulance is hosting the motorcycle run at the Old Albanian Rugby Club on Sunday to raise cash to maintain its helicopters.

Participants will take on a 50 mile circular route from Woollam’s Playing Fields in Harpenden Road.

Wendy Marcon, events manager at the charity, said that the charity is well supported by the motorcycling community.

She said: "Sadly the Air Ambulance does often get called out to motorcycle incidents but with events like these we can help to raise vital funds to ensure the helicopter continues to fly and keep saving lives."

10 patients were airlifted by Herts Air Ambulance last month and the event organisers are hoping to raise in the region of £3,000 in order to help towards the monthly running costs for both helicopters, which are £440,000.

The event opens at 8.30am and the race starts 10am.

Training schools will be laid on for novices.

Motorcyclists can still sign up and can even turn up on the day and take part in the event.
