Disgusted at loss of the King’s Head

2:30pm Wednesday 5th December 2007

After reading your article in the Enfield Independent, I felt disgusted that Enfield is losing another established public house (The King's Head - Independent, November 21, page 7).

The Enfield Arms was knocked down to make way for a pointless road, despite the chimneys being listed.

I do not suppose the council will stand in the way of someone knocking the King's Head down and building more shops that lay empty.

The Kings Head is a pivotal part of the town's charm and is actually in need of refurbishing rather than closing.

It has a large rear bar which has a raised stage area, there is nowhere local for up and coming bands to play.

The Head does not have huge plasma screen tvs - it doesn't even have a juke box - but what it does have is character. The brewery also own the Goose at the George across the road.

Enfield town used to be a charming market town with character - sadly it is turning into a monster.

The council seem hell bent on losing the town's identity and, what with the go ahead for the Tottenham Hotspur development in Bulls Cross, I really fear for Enfield's future.

When money is thrown at the council it just seems to jump.
