Spurs aim to get European challenge back on track

SPURS have the perfect chance to reignite their Europa League challenge this weekend.

The Lilywhites host rock-bottom West Bromich Albion, hoping to finally put last Saturday's events at Old Trafford to bed.

Tottenham lost 5-2 at Manchester United, manager Harry Redknapp left fuming after the controversial awarding of a penalty to the hosts, when the visitors were cruising two goals to the good.

There was no doubt that was the turning point, and much has been said on the subject this week.

But now Redknapp must lift his troops for the remaining four games of the season.

While few expected Spurs to get much from their trip to the title-chasing Red Devils, very few will bet against anything other than a home win against the Baggies this Saturday.

Though West Brom did pick up a rare win last weekend, seeing off fellow relegation-threatened Sunderland 3-0, Tottenham will start firm favourites.

Redknapp's troops have not lost at White Hart Lane since the end of November, when Everton left victorious.

However, Albion did inflict a 2-0 defeat over Tottenham at The Hawthorns a month later, two late goals doing the damage.

Tony Mowbray's men will also be lifted by the win over Sunderland, and have still not given up the fight, even though they will probably have to win all four of their remaining matches to stay up. However, they have only won one on their travels.

Spurs are now three points off the coveted seventh position, which Fulham now hold.

The Cottagers will do well to retain that three-point advantage this weekend, however, as they have a tough trip to neighbours Chelsea.

Of course, West Ham United, Manchester City and even Wigan Athletic will still feel they can sneak into Europe, making for an exciting finish to the campaign.

Saturday's match at White Hart Lane kicks off at 3pm.
