Christian Eriksen and Ryan Mason will undergo late fitness tests as Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action at home to Crystal Palace today (kick-off 1.30pm).

Mousa Dembele is also a doubt whilst Nabil Bentaleb (ankle) has been ruled out.

All four missed Spurs’ 3-1 Europa League win over Qarabag on Thursday as head coach Mauricio Pochettino shuffled his pack for the visit of the Azerbaijani side.

Danish playmaker Eriksen has not played since the 2-2 draw with Stoke City on August 15 whilst Dembele has not featured since the end of last month.

England international Mason took a knock to the knee in scoring the winner at Sunderland last weekend and has been left out since.

The Eagles arrive at White Hart Lane in seventh place having accrued nine points from their first five games and enjoyed a memorable 2-1 win at champions Chelsea.

Pochettino expects a tough test from Alan Pardew’s men and told the club’s website: “Palace have improved a lot from last season and it’s a team that has won eight of their last ten away matches, so we need to be focused for this game.

“We expect a tough game but we can be confident and we’ll try to win,” added the Argentine. “Now we have to try to play better than Palace and show that we deserve to win this game.”

After a sluggish start to the season Spurs have enjoyed back-to-back wins against Sunderland and Qarabag and are unbeaten in five matches in all competitions.

It is a run Belgian centre-back Toby Alderweireld is understandably keen to keep going as Tottenham look to move up the Premier League standings.

He said: “Palace are a very good team so it’s going to be difficult, but at home we always have to try hard and when we play our best football we can beat everyone.

“It’s always nice to have a victory and start well in Europe like we did on Thursday, especially in a home game.

“You want three points and we did a good job, but now we are focused on Sunday.

“Crystal Palace have good strikers and they’re in a good moment so we have to be on top of our game – all the team does.

“We’ve had two wins in a row so that’s good and now we’ll try to make it three wins.”

Crystal Palace expect to have Connor Wickham, Joe Ledley and Damian Delaney back but the game comes too soon for Joel Ward (knee) and Marouane Chamakh (hamstring).
