Tottenham Hotspur new boy Clinton Njie may have become an instant hero at White Hart Lane after revealing he picked Spurs ahead of rivals Arsenal.

The 22-year-old Cameroon international, who netted seven goals last season, signed for the Lilywhites on Saturday and will have immediately become a fans' favourite after claiming he rejected a move to the Emirates Stadium in favour of Spurs.

He told the Daily Express: “I was never scared that my transfer to Tottenham would not be confirmed. I never spoke to Arsenal representatives on the phone, they simply contacted my agent. My choice was made, I was determined to join Tottenham."

Njie continued: “Here I will be working under Mauricio Pochettino, a manager who plays youngsters and allows them to progress.

“On Thursday, after I arrived in London and had my medical tests, he welcomed me with Daniel Levy, to tell me that he hoped I would be available as quickly as possible."

Njie will not be unfamiliar to Arsenal fans after featuring for former club Lyon in the Emirates Cup in pre-season.

Elsewhere, Spurs could make an offer for England international Saido Berahino, with an opening bid of £25 million thought to be on the cards according to the Daily Telegraph.

Berahino faces an uncertain future at West Bromwich Albion. After storming into the public eye with a number of impressive displays for the Baggies, which included 14 goals last season he won a call up to the senior England squad in November for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia.
