Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to offer Emmanuel Adebayor in a part-exchange deal for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, however Villa are understood to want cash only.

Benteke, who has scored in 49 goals 94 starts since joining the midlands club, has two years left on his contract and has shown no intention of signing a new deal at Villa Park.

The powerful forward signed for the Villans in 2012 for £7 million from Genk and due to a clause in his contract, the Belgian side will be due 15 per cent of any profit above that fee.

And that means Villa are reluctant to let him go for anything less than his £32.5 million release clause, according to the Daily Mail.

Spurs, like Liverpool, view this buyout clause as too high, however, they are hoping Tim Sherwood’s relationship with Adebayor could tempt the Villa manager into agreeing to a player-plus-cash deal.

Adebayor’s £100,000-a-week wages will be out of Villa’s budget, but Spurs could subsidies the Togolese forward’s wages in order to get any potential deal across the line.
