England coach Gary Neville believes that the scintillating form of Harry Kane should see the Tottenham Hotspur forward earn his first England cap.

Neville has echoed Roy Hodgson’s belief the 21-year-old will be included in the England squad to face Lithuania in the European Championship qualifiers next month.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Neville described Kane’s form this season as “sensational” and struggled to pick a weakness in his armoury.

Neville said: “I watched the game before Christmas against Everton and it transformed my appreciation of him.

“I saw he could go and attack defenders and run at them, he could go up with strong defenders and win balls, he could go back as a number ten and be diligent defensively, win the ball back and counter-attack.”

With 24 goals in all competitions Kane has been the star turn in a Tottenham side preparing for the League Cup final against Chelsea on Sunday, as well as fighting for a top four spot in the Premier League.

Kane is tied with Charlie Austin as the highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League, with 14 goals, and Neville believes “you can’t ignore the form he has been in.”

Earlier this month Hodgson all but confirmed Kane would be a part of his next England squad, and asserted that he had earned that right.

“Is he worth a place in the squad now? Of course he is,” said Hodgson. “If you can be a star at a club like Tottenham at the age of 21 then you’re doing pretty well.”

Kane’s imminent call up has raised concerns over Gareth Southgate’s selection for this summer’s UEFA European Under-21 Championships.

However, Neville was eager to stress Southgate will have the final decision about who he takes to the competition in the Czech Republic.

He said: “Roy has been forthright and said Gareth will have the full squad and can take anyone he wants.”
