Mauricio Pochettino believed his side were unlucky not to come away with at least a point after Tottenham Hotspur lost 3-2 to Liverpool at Anfield last night.

Lazar Markovic opened the scoring before Harry Kane equalised with his 23rd goal of the season. A Steven Gerrard penalty and Moussa Dembele tap in followed, but it was Mario Balotelli who had the last say, scoring his first Premier League goal of the season late on to win it.

It ended a run of three consecutive wins for Spurs but Pochettino thought his side were desperately unlucky not to take something from the game.

The Argentine told the club website: “At the end, in the last ten minutes, I thought the game was finished and we deserved to take a minimum of one point from Anfield, but that’s football and we have to accept it. It’s unlucky for us.

“It’s a shame but we have to keep working. We have a young squad, a young team and it’s never easy to play again three days after such a big game at White Hart Lane, never easy to play another tough game like Liverpool.

“I’m a little sad because the effort was great from our players. I’m proud of them for their effort, just disappointed about the result."
