Everton have set their sights on Tottenham Hotspur’s Mousa Dembele, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Toffees have shown an interest in the 27-year-old midfielder since the summer and have enquired about his availability ahead of the January transfer window.

Dembele left Fulham for a fee of £15 million in 2012 and scored on his Tottenham debut against Norwich City. Despite making a good initial impression, the Belgium international has struggled to maintain consistency throughout his time at Spurs.

At the start of the season Dembele performed well against Sunderland, suggesting a return to his past form.

Tottenham fans have instead been underwhelmed by a string of poor performances from the Belgian, with his lackluster displays continuing in defeat against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

However, Dembele was one of five players rested mid-week as Tottenham took on Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League, suggesting Mauricio Pochettino still sees Dembele as a key player.
