Mauricio Pochettino's fine start to life as Spurs head coach continued with a 6-1 trouncing of a young Celtic side in Helsinki on Saturday afternoon.

First-half strikes from Harry Kane, Roberto Soldado and Lewis Holtby were added to by Erik Lamela, Emmanuel Adebayor and Christian Eriksen after the break as the SPL holders struggled to contain Pochettino's side.

The lead was Spurs' after five minutes when Andros Townsend tore down the left-hand flank and cut back for Kane to drive beyond former Scotland international, Craig Gordon, in the Celtic goal.

Club-record signing Soldado doubled the lead just seven minutes later, finishing at the second attempt after Gordon had blocked his initial effort following good work from Holtby.

Centre-back Michael Dawson was forced off with an injury after 19 minutes but the chances continued to flow before Celtic pulled one back.

Brad Friedel saved with his feet from Dylan McGeough before Jamie Lindsey was awarded a goal from the follow-up, despite the American keeper appearing to save his effort.

Spurs' two-goal lead was restored on the stroke of half-time when Etienne Capoue slotted through Holtby to tuck beyond Gordon.

Half-time substitute Lamela bagged the fourth in the 61st minute, collecting the ball before striding forward and firing past Gordon via the aid of a deflection.

Spurs had to wait until the 82nd minute for number five; Eriksen whipping a free-kick beyond Gordon and into the top corner following a foul on Adebayor.

And it was that man Adebayor who rounded off the scoring seven minutes later, converting a penalty following a foul on Danny Rose.

Celtic's misery was complete when in injury time, defender Efe Ambrose was dismissed following his second caution.

Spurs first half: Friedel; Naughton, Dawson (Fryers 19), Kaboul, Davies; Capoue, Mason; Holtby, Kane, Townsend; Soldado.

Spurs second half: Friedel; Naughton (Fredericks 70), Kaboul, Fryers (Veljkovic 77), Rose; Capoue (Sandro 70), Bentaleb; Lennon, Eriksen, Lamela; Adebayor.
