Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen scored the winner as Belgium beat South Korea 1-0 to set up a last-16 tie with the USA.

The centre-back scored from close-range in the 77th minute to give Belgium maximum points from Group H.

Midfielder Moussa Dembele played the full 90 minutes for Marc Wilmots' side and was booked, whilst Nacer Chadli was a 60th minute replacement for Manchester United's Adnan Januzaj.

The Red Devils were reduced to ten men when midfielder Steven Defour was dismissed for a high tackle on Kim Shin-wook in the 45th minute but went on to win their final group match.

Belgium will now face Group G runners-up, USA, in the second round after Jurgen Klinsmann's side finished runners-up to Germany.

Elsewhere in Group H, Spurs midfielder Nabil Bentaleb helped Algeria qualify for the second round with a 1-1 draw against Russia.

The 19-year-old started and played the full 90 minutes for the Desert Foxes.

Aleksandr Kokorin opened the scoring after six minutes but Islam Slimani equalised on the hour to give the Africans the point they needed to confirm their qualification.

Algeria will now face Germany in the last 16.
