Spurs head coach Tim Sherwood says "someone is telling porkies" about the club's managerial situation, with Frank de Boer and Tottenham both saying different things.

The club moved to deny rumours they had approached de Boer earlier in the week after the Ajax boss announced Spurs had made an approach for his services for next season.

Tottenham released a short statement vehemently denying they had approached any potential candidates to replace to Sherwood, but speculation linking de Boer to White Hart Lane will not abate.

Speaking ahead of Tottenham's trip to West Ham this weekend, Sherwood told ITV Sport: "Somewhere along the line someone is telling porkies.

"No, I haven't - it was a strange situation, wasn't it?

"When a club's coming out and saying they've been spoken to, and the manager, and then the club that I'm associated with is denying it. That's where we are with it. No, I'm no further forward."

De Boer's twin brother Ronald has been quick to back his brother for the role, but Sherwood says the Dutchman will have big shoes to fill at the Lane, if he succeeds him.

"I don't think he is too interested in looking at what I am doing already because if he did then he would see he has got a hard act to follow," said Sherwood, who boasts the best win percentage in the Premier League of any Spurs boss.
