Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris says it would be "difficult to do worse" than Spurs have this season.

The French international is one of few players to emerge with any credit from a disappointing campaign for the North London outfit.

Spurs' record against the the sides above them has been particularly poor, winning just once, against Everton in February.

Heavy defeats against Manchester City (6-0) and Liverpool (5-0) ultimately cost Andre Villas-Boas his job, but Tottenham have scarcely improved under Tim Sherwood, losing 5-1 against Manchester City and 4-0 at Liverpool and Chelsea.

Asked if Spurs could have done better this term, Lloris told the Daily Mirror: "It will be difficult to do worse. Especially against the top four or five teams.

"We have had a lot of bad defeats. This season there has sometimes been the feeling that we have given up. We can’t allow this kind of behaviour," continued Lloris.

Spurs' record against the five sides above them reads seven losses, two draws and just one victory.

They have scored just three goals in that period, conceding 27 - an average of nearly three per game.

And Lloris, who has 54 full French caps, believes his teammates need to show more character in order to improve upon that dismal record.

"We have to show more character. We did it in other games. But we have to keep our mentality in every game at the best level because in this league you have to be 100 per cent every time you play."
