Harry Kane nets hat-trick as Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s overcome Manchester City
3:33pm Monday 19th August 2013 in Spurs
Harry Kane bagged a hat-trick as Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-21s beat Manchester City 6-3 this afternoon.
Senior professional phase coach Chris Ramsey named a strong starting XI with Brazilian international Sandro starting alongside Tom Carroll in midfield. Young professionals Zeki Fryers and Andros Townsend were also included.
Carroll had Spurs ahead after just three minutes with an effort from just outside the City 18-yard box.
Ten minutes before the break, Spurs doubled their lead when Carroll turned provider, slipping the ball through for Kane to finish one-on-one.
With the half drawing to a close, Marco Lopes pulled one back for City, scoring from the area’s edge.
Seven minutes after the restart Spurs re-established their two-goal advantage with Iago Falque converting from Townsend’s cross.
Carroll bagged a second assist just three minutes later, releasing Kane who finished clinically after an exquisite first touch.
Spurs had complete control of the game and demonstrated their supremacy with a fifth just after the hour, Kane finishing from close-range following Townsend’s low centre.
Harry Bunn pulled one back for City with 20 minutes to play, winning the ball on the edge of the box and finishing coolly.
George Glendon then moved the Citizens within two goals of Spurs in the 79th minute, controlling Adam Drury’s cross before turning and firing home with precision.
In the 92nd minute Spurs rounded off the scoring when Nabil Bentaleb saw his header touched onto the bar by Angus Gunn - son of former Norwich keeper Bryan - only for Shaquile Coulthirst to tap home.
Spurs have now won both of their Under-21 Premier League fixtures thus far.
