MIDDLESEX sunk to the bottom of the Pro40 Division 1 table after a 19-run defeat at home to Nottinghamshire today.
They bowled their visitors out for just 180 in miserable conditions at Lord's, but then collapsed to 161 all out, with only Eoin Morgan (39) providing any resistance.
Will Jefferson (22) and Graeme Swann (33) got Nottinghamshire off to a good start, sharing 57 for the first wicket.
But once the former was run out, wickets fell regularly, with only a sixth-wicket stand of 49 between Bilal Shafayat (31) and Chris Read (21) and some quick late cameos by the tailenders helping them to a vaguely respectable total.
Tim Murtagh took three wickets for Middlesex with Dirk Nannes and Tyron Henderson claiming two a piece.
In reply, Ben Scott (22) was the only other Middlesex batsman aside from Morgan to pass 20, and with the final five wickets going for 31 runs, the home side was bowled out 20 runs short of victory.
Swann (3-27) proved the pick of the visitors' bowling attack.
Middlesex's next match in the competition is away to Sussex on Thursday (4.30pm) with their final match at Worcesteshire on Sunday (12.45pm). That is likely to be switched to Kidderminster as New Road is currently flooded.
