TALENTED Enfield athlete Matt Sharp finished 21st in the recent Mazda London Triathlon held at ExCel.
The 19-year-old clocked 1hr 50min 55sec in the elite male race, made up of the three disciplines of swimming, cycling and running.
Sharp was prepared for the race having been talent spotted by the Mazda and British Triathlon Federation’s (BTF) Talent Identification Programme.
That nurtures and develops aspiring stars of the sport, with the aim of raising the standard of Britain's long-term participation in major triathlon competitions.
Run by the BTF and with active support from Mazda, the Talent ID Programme is aiming to bring more talent through the ranks, increasing the overall number of athletes reaching the pinnacle of the sport and improving Britain's medal-winning potential at upcoming major events.
Sharp’s performance in a top-class field of 63 was afterwards heralded as a perfect example of how the programme is already seeing benefits.
