Enfield Town head into Saturday's FA Cup first qualifying round tie at home to Harrow Borough following their best start to a season for six years.

Under new manager Andy Leese, the Towners have taken eight points from five games including a 1-0 win over Harlow Town on Monday and a 4-0 thrashing of Tooting & Mitcham United last weekend to leave them eighth in the Isthmian Premier Division.

Considering the playing squad was shorn of all but a couple of players over the close season, following the departure of manager Bradley Quinton to Braintree Town, manager Leese and his assistant, former Premier League and England Under 21 central defender Darren Purse, have impressed in assembling a competitive squad virtually from scratch in double-quick time.

This weekend's opponents Boro are currently third in the same division and Enfield hope to attract a big crowd at the Queen Elizabeth stadium.

Chairman Paul Reed said: "Although Harrow have made a good start to the season, a home tie is always an advantage, and the FA competitions can provide vital additional revenue for the club. I would urge supporters to get along to the Queen Elizabeth Stadium on Saturday afternoon and create a real cup atmosphere. Who knows, we this may be the first step of an overdue run in the FA Cup this season."

Meanwhile, Enfield Council have announced the construction of a 3G facility on Enfield Playing Fields which will become a centre for grass-roots football development following the completion of a world-class, third-generation, artificial grass pitch later this year.

Work has begun to install the pitch after Enfield Council was approached by the Football Association and awarded a grant of £522,000 from the charity Football Foundation.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Daniel Anderson, said: “Good quality facilities are vital in encouraging people to actively participate in sport. The 3G artificial grass pitch will enable the community to use this facility all-year round. It will add to the enjoyment of playing grass-roots sport and showcase Enfield Playing Fields, which is already much-loved and well-used by the community."

Enfield Town will be working with the council to help deliver a football development plan that will increase youth, women’s and disability football in the borough.

Reed said: “We are incredibly excited to be having this facility on our doorstep and can’t wait to work with Enfield Council to enhance the borough’s growing reputation in football. Our aim is to increase accessibility to football and help make it a sport for all, and this project fits perfectly with our vision of being an inclusive club and a football and social centre for the community, with a range of teams playing at the highest sustainable levels possible.”

Town also recently announced a new main sponsor for the new season -Powerday - a waste management company who have recently opened a new site in the borough.

Reed continued: "I am delighted that the club has secured the sponsorship of a company that has a strong track record of supporting sport throughout London."
