Enfield Town edged closer to securing a play-off place after back-to-back victories in the Ryman Premier League over Easter weekend.

Town defeated Harlow Town 3-0 on Monday, their seventh league win in a row, and a point from their final league game this Saturday against Leiston will secure them a play-off spot.

The opening period was a tense affair with the Hawks needing a win to keep their fifth-place hopes alive.

In the third minute, Dernell Wynter had Town’s first chance after an attempted clearance gave him an opportunity, but former Town keeper David Hughes managed to thwart the danger.

Tyler Campbell fired wide and Hughes saved again from Wynter before a Ricky Gabriel header hit the outside of the post.

Five minutes later, Harlow’s Mario Noto tested Nathan McDonald following a quick break with the Town stopper grabbing the ball at the second attempt.

The first half ended goalless but the game opened up on the 53rd minute when Karl Oliyide tore down the right and looked for Harry Ottaway at the far post.

His low slide pass was turned in by a combination of Ottaway and Craig Pope.

Soon after the opening goal, Harlow’s Layne Eadie had to be carried off with a facial injury.

On the hour mark, the home side were calling for a penalty after Gabriel tangled with Bamba Ngamb but referee Thomas Hancock waved away the appeals.

With 15 minutes to go, a Billy Crook corner from the left found the head of Mark Kirby.

And although Hughes did well to parry the ball away, it was only cleared as far as Ottaway who turned and smashed the loose ball home.

Hawks skipper Craig Pope was sent off in the eighth minute of stoppage time after picking up a second yellow.

As the final whistle was about to be blown, a move involving Bobby Devyne and Samir Bihmoutine ended with an emphatic finish from Oliyide to send the away fans into raptures.

On Saturday, Town saw off Folkestone Invicta 3-1 at the QES Stadium.

Kirby opened the scoring in the third minute as he headed past Tim Roberts.

Ottaway doubled the home side’s lead in the 24th when his first shot was saved by Roberts but he managed to net comfortably from the rebound.

And it was effectively game over two minutes into the second half when Wynter scored the third.

Joe Taylor gained a consolation goal for the visitors when he got onto the end of a Nat Blanks cross and outmuscled Kirby to net.
