A 96th minute winner from Heung-Min Son spared Tottenham's blushes as they sneaked past League Two Wycombe Wanderers in a seven-goal FA Cup thriller at White Hart Lane.

It seemed for most of the game Spurs would suffer one of the biggest cup upsets in recent memory, with the away side taking a two-goal lead in the first half, before being pegged back to 2-2 after the break.

Wycombe then went 3-2 up and, with just four minutes left to play, appeared to have pulled off a giant killing, when Dele Alli and Son found late goals to drag Tottenham into the Fifth Round.

The Chairboys almost took the lead with just seconds on the clock- Adebayo Akinfenwa’s nod back across goal was met by the head of Paul Hayes, who rattled the crossbar.

Wycombe did then stun the home side on 23 minutes by opening the scoring through a superb strike by skipper Hayes.

A corner from the right was only half cleared to the edge of the area by Josh Onomah and into the path of the visitors’ number 9, who rifled a left-footed volley home.

Tottenham were almost level shortly after when Georges-Kévin Nkoudou produced a dangerous cross from the left, eventually falling to Moussa Sissoko, whose toe-poked finish was cleared off the line.

The unthinkable happened when Wycombe scored again to go in at the break two goals to the good over the side 69 places above them in the English football pyramid.

Spurs centre backs Kevin Wimmer and Cameron Carter-Vickers looked uncomfortable dealing with bulky striker Ankinfenwa all afternoon and on 35 minutes he outmuscled the pair to set Sam Wood racing into the area.

The recovering Carter-Vickers dived in with a rash tackle, prompting referee Roger East to point to the spot. Vorm got a foot to Hayes’s penalty, but could not prevent it hitting the back of the net.

Tottenham got back into the tie on the hour mark, when Son fired a shot past Blackman at his near post.

Facing embarrassment, Mauricio Pochettino was forced to bring on Alli, Moussa Dembele and Vincent Janssen in a bid to salvage something from the game.

The changes instantly paid off, when Janssen was barged over in the area by Aaron Pierre three minutes after his introduction.

The Dutchman then converted the second penalty of the game to draw Spurs level.

The home side were forced to play the last 20 minutes with 10 men after right back Kieran Trippier picked up an injury with three substitutes already used.

Wycombe took full advantage of their additional man by regaining the lead with six minutes to play, when two substitutes of their own combined.

Myles Weston used his fresh legs to break down the left, delivering a pinpoint cross onto the head of Garry Thompson, who guided his effort past the outstretched hand of Vorm.

Incredibly, there was yet more to come from the tie and Alli produced a wonderful solo goal with two minutes of regular time to play to put Spurs back on level terms once again.

The England midfielder was set loose on the edge of Wycombe’s area and beat two men before executing a calm, side-footed finish.

Boos rang out from the away fans inside the ground when it was announced six minutes stoppage time would be played- and it would be where their team would eventually fall short.

With just seconds left in the tie, Janssen combined with Son, whose shot deflected off a Wycombe body in the box before heading in.

The goal marked a fantastic come back from Tottenham, but broke the hearts of the Chairboys, who perhaps deserved at least a replay for their battling performance.

With their name now in the hat for the FA Cup Fifth Round draw, Spurs will return to Premier League action on Tuesday night, when they travel to struggling Sunderland.
