Enfield Town’s seven-game unbeaten run came to an end at the weekend after they lost 2-1 to Leatherhead.

Jimmy Bullard’s side caught Town cold with an early attack down the right which ended with former Towner Tony Mendy dragging shot inches wide of Nathan McDonald’s right-hand post.

A carbon copy attack moments later produced another low save from McDonald but at their third attempt, there was no mistake.

The Tanners took the early lead they were striving for when a D’Sean Theobalds through ball freed Mohammed Sagaf to slot home after seven minutes.

Town tried to find a way back into the game but Percy Kiangebeni and Tyler Campbell both failed to capitalise on their opportunities.

And it was not until the 35th minute that Town made a clear cut chance when a great ball from Harry Ottaway set Campbell free but his chip was well saved by home keeper Louis Wells.

The last chance of the half came when Keir Dickson sent in a dangerous cross which was headed clear by Chris Parr.

The Towners left themselves with a mountain to climb with another sluggish start to the second period after Anthony Mendy converted a free-kick in the 51st minute.

Campbell fired just wide shortly afterwards as the game began to open up.

Bobby Devyne forced Wells into a fine save with a fast drive just before the hour mark and McDonald had to make a save down the other end to keep out Kadell Daniel.

It was a second-half substitute who gave Town a lifeline when Dernell Wynter forced home a great cross from Campbell on the right.

With 15 minutes to go Wells produced the save of the day when he instinctively kept out a goalbound header from Ottaway.

Wells spilled a Jon Muleba effort late on but there was no-one on hand to get to the rebound while at the other end, Mcdonald made another stop to keep out sub Calum Davies as the home side held on for the points.

Harlow Town is next up at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium on Boxing Day.
