Danny Rose starred as Tottenham came from a goal down to beat a spirited Burnley side 2-1 at White Hart Lane.

Spurs signed off with a win in their final Premier League game before Christmas, but had to come from behind after Ashley Barnes put the visitors ahead with help from a defensive mix-up.

Dele Alli cancelled out the Clarets’ opener six minutes later, before Rose capped off a well-worked move in the second half to complete the comeback.

Alli should have put Spurs ahead with just two minutes on the clock, when he blasted high and wide after Harry Kane had put him one-on-one with Burnley keeper Tom Heaton.

It was the visitors’ chance to go close next. Harry Winks lost out to Stephen Ward in a wide position before the fullback’s cross offered Andre Gray a golden opportunity to take the lead.

However, the Clarets’ top-scorer last term was unable to find a way past Hugo Lloris in the Spurs net.

Burnley looked dangerous on the break and took the lead in the 21st minute, following a pair of defensive errors by Harry Winks and Kyle Walker.

Winks first lost the ball on the edge of his own area, before Walker’s missed challenged allowed George Boyd to cross into the path of Ashley Barnes, who opened the scoring.

Tottenham were not behind for long and Dele Alli’s fourth Premier League goal of the season cancelled out Burnley’s advantage just six minutes later.

Walker atoned for his error in the lead up to the first goal by providing a dangerous low ball into the box, which Alli stroked home calmly with a side-footed effort from 18 yards.

Spurs created several good chances early in the second half, but were unable to convert their opportunities into goals.

In-form Christian Eriksen almost found success when his dipping shot from 30 yards hit the roof of the netting, before the Dane headed a Walker cross straight at Heaton minutes later.

With 20 minutes to play and time seemingly running out, Tottenham took the lead through a well-deserved goal from Danny Rose.

The England left back, who caused Burnley problems all afternoon, latched onto substitute Moussa Sissoko’s through ball and unleashed a crashing drive, beating Heaton at his near post.

The away side were never out of the game and pressed for an equaliser until the final whistle, but Tottenham held on to move within a point of the Champions League places.

Spurs next face a trip to St Mary’s to take on Southampton three days after Christmas, before they then travel to Watford on New Year’s Day.
