Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino praised his side’s flexibility after they recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Hull.

Tottenham switched to three at the back during the Premier League clash, with Eric Dier and Jan Vertonghen joined by the returning Toby Alderweireld.

The moved pushed full backs Danny Rose and Kyle Walker further forward and both provided assists for Christian Eriksen, who now has five goals in his last four games.

Pochettino said: “This season we are working hard to try to develop different formations, different systems to use to try to provide the team with different solutions.

“Today we believed it was the better way to play the way we played. I think it was working very well, the first two goals arrived through the action of our full backs.

“Danny Rose and Kyle Walker were in a higher position, to use them like wing backs.

“After the training looks like it was a very good choice, but as always in football it is very important to be clinical and to score.”

Spurs took the lead through Eriksen in the 13th minute, when Rose cut the ball back after beating Ahmed Elmohamady to allow the Dane to drive home.

Eriksen got his second after the break, when Kyle Walker squared across the face of goal to give the midfielder a tap-in at the far post.

He almost scored his first Spurs hat trick 10 minutes later, when Hull keeper David Marshall could only push Eriksen’s free kick onto the post, before the rebound fell to Victor Wanyama, who put the home side three up.

The win helped Spurs maintain fifth position in the Premier League table heading into Christmas- and Pochettino stressed his team must now kick on heading into the New Year.

He added: “I think the three points keep us in a very good position in the table.

“I think this is now a moment we have to keep our faith and try to reduce the gap but if not, to maintain the position.”
