Enfield Town have gone six games unbeaten as they fought back to draw 2-2 at Merstham in the Ryman Football League on Saturday.

Billy Crook whipped a corner into the box in the 13th minute as Mark Kirby rose the highest but could not get significant contact on his header and the ball drifted wide of the post.

In the 34th minute, Town squandered a great chance to break the deadlock as Crook played the ball out to Tyler Campbell who crossed to Samir Bihmoutine and his shot was saved by Phil Wilson.

The miss was to prove costly a mistake from Ricky Gabriel with the loose ball being played to Dan Hector who slid the ball past Nathan McDonald.

The hosts kept causing problems and the visitors had to weather a storm for the next ten minutes but the last chance of the first half came from a Town attack.

Keir Dickson was brought down just outside the penalty area before Crook fired the free-kick straight at the defensive wall.

The second half was a cagier affair and Mertsham almost extended their lead around the 65th minute mark as Omar Folkes’ shot was blocked from the edge of the penalty area before Hector was allowed too much room as he shot the ball wide.

But it was Merstham who scored another as Xavier Vidal surged down the right wing and played the ball onto Reece Hall who found Alex Addai as he unleashed a hard low shot under McDonald.

Trailing by two with only ten minutes to go Town found their stride as substitute Bobby Devyne pulled one back seven minutes from time from close range.

Gabriel became the hero as he found the equaliser in injury time as he drifted in at the far post and tucked the ball under Wilson to level.

The Towners take on Wingate & Finchley this weekend in their next match.

Mertsham launched a late attack but it was to no avail as both sides shared the spoils and Enfield will now go onto face Wingate & Finchley on Saturday, October 15 with a 3pm kick off.
