Enfield Ignatians suffered their fourth loss as they succumbed to a 43-24 defeat to London Nigerians in the London Two North-West league.

It has been a difficult start to their campaign but the visitors did at least rescue a bonus point by scoring four tries.
Ignatians conceded two tries in the first six minutes, before the blue and golds steadied the ship by moving to within two points after winger Hadee Fayaz and prop Christo Kasabi both crossed the whitewash.

Frustratingly, Ignatians took their foot off the gas, and they paid a heavy price on the scoreboard after London Nigerians added a further two tries to secure a decisive 24-10 lead at the interval.

Perennial slow-starters, the visitors were again hit for two tries in the first seven minutes of the second period before the energetic blind-side flanker Frank Antwi bulldozed his way over following some good recycling by the blue and gold pack in the 53rd minute.

Enfield’s defensive patterns were again found wanting after Nigerians claimed a seventh and final try, before Cypriot international Kasabi brought some respectability to the scoreboard five minutes from time after the visitors successfully ran a penalty and crossed the line.
Tim Yaworski added a second conversion.

Coach Ali Cook: “We’ve always prided ourselves in our robust defence. However, we were found wanting in that area and allowed the opposition to cross our line too cheaply and we practically gifted London Nigerians four tries.

“It’s a bit of a roller coaster ride at the moment. In parts we’re playing some good rugby but the inconsistencies in our game means that we’re not backing it up in other areas, and consequently the side are paying for it on the scoreboard.”

Ignatians will be hoping to revive their fortunes when they host Harpenden in the league on Friday, October 7.
