Enfield Town made an emphatic return to Ryman League Premier Division action as they Thrashed Hendon 6-0 on Saturday.

The victory, which was only Town’s second in the league this season, ended a run of four league games in a row without a win.

They were in imperious form from the outset as Keir Dickson (2), Percy Kiangebeni, Dernell Wynter, Harry Ottaway and Ricky Gabriel all got on the scoresheet.

The six-goal winning margin levelled Town’s previous biggest in the Ryman top flight which came in an 8-2 triumph over Waltham Abbey in 2007.

Town’s 18th position in the table is a fair indication of their sluggish start to the season, but Mark Kirby made their attacking intentions clear when his second minute header was well saved.

They had to wait until the 23rd minute to take the lead through Kiangebeni as he controlled on his chest and volleyed in from a corner.

The hosts doubled the lead three minutes before the interval after Samir Bihmoutine drove down the left flank and delivered a low cross for Dickson to sweep home.

Wynter all but ended the match as a contest 11 minutes after the restart after latching onto a through ball and poking past the Hendon keeper.

Hendon barely had time to catch their breath before Town had stretched their lead further thanks to Otttaway’s inventive finish.

Having failed to connect with a spectacular overhead kick, the Town man managed to regain his footing and score from a tight angle.

The visitors were handed a potential lifeline after a handball in the Town box gave them the chance to get on the scoresheet from the penalty spot.

They couldn’t get past Nathan McDonald and the Enfield keeper saved smartly to maintain his clean sheet.

The scare seemed to spur Town back into life and Gabriel showed fine reactions to notch his side’s fifth of the day.

He exchanged a fine one two with Kirby before heading past Bradley Laurencin after his initial shot had been well saved by the Hendon stopper.

There was still time for Dickson to add his second with a classy low drive from 20 yards out to complete a superb Town win with 15 minutes remaining.

They will look to take their impressive form into Tuesday night’s clash against Metropolitan Police.
