North Enfield moved up to third in Herts Division Two B after a two-wicket win over Welwyn Garden City Seconds on Saturday.

The side lost the toss and were forced to bowl first.

Derrick Sanders (three for 60) took a couple of early wickets and after eight overs Welwyn were 24-2.

As the middle order started to rebuild North Enfield looked to restrict the runs, with Abdul Vahid Khan (1-23) bowling his first nine overs for 10 runs and Steve Gandy’s (2-26) 12 overs going for 26.

As the pressure started to build the wickets started to fall at regular intervals and Welwyn were restricted to 162-9.

North Enfield’s innings started well enough. Opener Kieran Jones (87 not out) made an impact with an important contribution.

Chris Gillman (ten) fell in the 17th over with the score on 65.

A middle order collapse left them on 100-7 after 32 overs.

But a 30-run partnership between Jones and Sanders steadied the ship.

Khan hit an unbeaten 18 and a strong finish saw the side reach the target with an over to spare.

North Enfield Seconds are bottom of Division Six B after their eight-wicket defeat against Letchworth Garden City Thirds.

After losing the toss North Enfield were put into bat. The side lost an early wicket after Alex Williams was caught in the fourth over.

Mark Ricketts and Richard White moved the score to 40 but fell in consecutive balls. Wickets kept falling and North Enfield were on 57-7.

Garry Orton (38) and Steve Maskall (27) helped the side reach 121 all out.

But the opponents eased to the target for the loss of two wickets.
