Enfield Town had to settle for a frustrating goalless draw at struggling Farnborough on Saturday.

The Towners were unable to break down the hosts in a missed opportunity to keep the pressure on the teams above them in the race for the Ryman Premier Division play-offs.

Bradley Quinton’s side are ninth in the table and five points off the top five heading into the last eight games of the season.

Enfield had a bright start to the contest and went close through Terrell Forbes but his header went wide of the target.

Bobby Devyne also had an opportunity for the Towners but the striker’s effort was saved by goalkeeper Aaron Bufton.

Harold Joseph had a header for the visitors but his effort was cleared away to safety by CJ Fearn.

Farnborough’s first chance of the game fell to Matt Ball but his header was comfortably held by Enfield goalkeeper Nathan McDonald.

Quinton’s side produced a dangerous attack after a backheel from Samir Bihmoutine but Corey Whitely blasted his shot over the crossbar.

At the other end, Dennis Oli drilled in a shot which was saved by McDonald. Bogdan Vastsuk also fired in an effort which was kept out by the visiting keeper.

The final chances of the half fell to Harry Ottaway and Whitely but the pair were unable to break the deadlock.

Enfield’s best chance of the match fell to Devyne on the hour mark when he received the ball and struck a 20-yard shot which rebounded off the crossbar.

But Farnborough still carried a threat on the break and went close when Vastsuk was through one on one but his effort was kept out by McDonald.

There was a lengthy stoppage midway through the half after the referee Alexander Fisher suffered an injury and was forced off the pitch.

This delay certainly did not help either team in terms of halting any momentum.

But it was Quinton’s side that threatened a winner after the restart when Joseph headed over the bar.

Ottaway also spurned a decent opportunity after electing to pass rather than take a shot.

John Francis had the final chance for the hosts but he failed to trouble McDonald after firing wide of the target.

The last effort from the Towners fell to Joseph but his header was safely held by Bufton.
