Enfield Town’s winless run in November continued after a 1-0 defeat at Grays Athletic in the Ryman Premier Division.

Bradley Quinton’s side could not find the breakthrough on Saturday as the result at Mill Field left them 17th in the table.

The Towners fell behind after 15 minutes when they conceded a goal on the counter-attack.

Enfield won a corner but the ball was headed clear and Joe Stevens slipped. This enabled the hosts to win possession and a through ball released Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson for a neat finish past goalkeeper Nathan McDonald.

Enfield almost created an opportunity through Dernell Wynter’s cross but defender Sean Cronin was able to clear the danger.

Grays threatened again before the break from a free kick but McDonald was able to punch the ball to safety.

After a sluggish first half, there was a better tempo to Enfield’s play at the start of the second period.

Jandir da Cruz nearly went close for the visitors from a corner by Samir Bihmoutine but he was unable to get the finishing touch on the ball.

But Town had another scare when goalscorer Fortnam-Tomlinson struck the visitors’ post from a counter-attack.

McDonald was also called into action as he kept out an effort from Dumebi Dumaka.

Quinton’s side pushed forward in search of an equaliser and Harry Ottaway had a chance but he failed to find the target.

Enfield almost scored a fortuitous equaliser when Joao Carlos sliced an attempted clearance which almost crept into his own net.

Quinton threw on Tyler Campbell and Bobby Devyne in a desperate bid to find a goal but the visitors could not find a late opening.

It was Grays that came closest to scoring again when Fortnam-Tomlinson fired wide.

It was Enfield’s second away league defeat in a row and stretched their winless run in the competition to four weeks.

Meanwhile Charlton Athletic are reportedly lining up a move for Enfield teenager Tayshan Hayden-Smith.

The 19-year-old came close to earning a move to Newcastle United two years ago but injury ruined his hopes of joining them.

The Addicks are set to take the attacker on trial with a view to signing him.

The Towners have the chance to claim a victory tonight in the Middlesex County Cup at North Greenford United.

Enfield follow this with a home game against Merstham in the league on Saturday.
