Enfield Town manager Brad Quinton feels it was a missed opportunity for his side after conceding a late equaliser in their 2-2 draw at home to Billericay Town on Saturday.

The Towners appeared to be on course for a victory in their Ryman Premier Division clash after taking a 2-0 lead in the first half.

But the visitors fought back and snatched a point to leave Enfield frustrated at letting the lead slip.

Quinton said: “The game should have been put to bed but it wasn’t to be. It just shows what can happen when you don’t take your chances.

“It’s disappointing not to get three points. We should have killed the game off but we stepped off the pedal a little bit in the second half.

“But Billericay never gave in and did what they do with their high balls into the penalty area and probably deserved their goal.”

He added: “I was disappointed we didn’t defend better and should have killed them off. It does feel like a missed opportunity for us and I feel that we have a better squad than them.”

The Towners got off to a promising start to the match and were rewarded with the opening goal when Harry Ottaway released Bobby Devyne and he raced clear of the defence and rounded goalkeeper Jack Giddens to score.

It got even better for the hosts after 27 minutes when they added their second of the game. Devyne attacked down the left wing and his delivery enabled Corey Whitely to flick the ball past the goalkeeper.

Whitely blasted over at the start of the second half which proved costly when Teddy Nesbitt pulled one back on the hour mark.

It looked like Enfield would hold on for the points but three minutes into injury time Alex Stephenson netted a close-range equaliser for Billericay.

Quinton was rewarded with the manager of the month for October and believes his players deserve credit for the award.

Quinton, who will receive a new suit after winning the accolade, said: “I want to thank them for their hard work and they will be looked after at the end of the season.

“They are a good bunch of lads and I think they could have also won the award in September as well as October for the run we’ve been on.”

The Towners switch their focus to the FA Trophy this Saturday when they host Thamesmead Town in the second qualifying round.

The Enfield boss said: “The boys know how much it means to me and the club. To have a great run would be tremendous and I’d love to go all the way and play at Wembley. It’s the non-league FA Cup and there are some great teams involved in it.”
