Enfield Town suffered their first Ryman Premier Division defeat since the start of September losing 1-0 at Kingstonian last night.

The Towners had put together a six-match winning run in the league but this was brought to an end after falling to a narrow defeat to the K’s.

Enfield created a great opportunity to take an early lead through Corey Whitely when he was released on goal but he failed to find the net.

Visiting goalkeeper Nathan McDonald was called into action when he was forced into saving a shot from Dan Bennett.

The hosts threatened again through Aaron Goode but his strike flew over the crossbar.

Tyler Campbell had an opportunity for the Towners but his strike was wide of the target.

Kingstonian were unfortunate not to take the lead before the break when George Wells’ powerful strike smashed off the crossbar.

Harry Ottaway also had a shot cleared for the visitors in a lively end to the first 45 minutes.

After the restart Ottaway and Whitely both fired wide of the target. But Kingstonian went even closer when Harold Odametey’s effort was superbly kept out by McDonald.

The breakthrough came for the hosts midway through the second half when Alan Inns powered a header past McDonald.

Brad Quinton’s side pushed for a late equaliser and put Kingstonian under pressure towards the end of the match.

Campbell saw his effort tipped round the post by home goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey.

Joe Stevens also sent his header on to the roof of the net as the hosts nervously defended their lead.

Stevens’ fierce strike was parried by Tolfrey as Enfield were left frustrated after failing to salvage a point from the game.

The defeat leaves Enfield 16th in the table with 23 points from 16 matches.

But they have the chance to bounce back quickly on Saturday when they host eighth-placed Billericay Town in the league.

Enfield will take on Thamesmead Town at home in the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy on Saturday, November 14.

As a result, the club’s trip to Burgess Hill Town on the same day has been moved back to Wednesday, December 2.
