Enfield Ignatians slumped to a 40-7 defeat at Welwyn in London Two North-West on Saturday.

The visitors began brightly after fly-half Jordan Wilson, cashing-in on some good work by the forwards, darted over after seven minutes.

The half-back converted his own try but, with Ignatians unable to add any further points, Welwyn took heart and scored two converted tries of their own to lead 14-7 at the break.

The second half became a long tortuous affair for Ignatians and a rampant Welwyn, carrying on from where they left off, added a further 26 points to run out handsome winners.

Captain Keir Bonnar said: β€œIt was a thoroughly bad day at the office and particularly in the last quarter of the game. We need to draw a line under this performance, regroup and move forward for the visit of Tabard.”

Enfield Ignatians Seconds also lost by an identical 40-7 scoreline to Harpenden Seconds in Herts-Middlesex Merit Table Two.

It was only in the last play that Sean Coyne was able to force his way over from the catch and drive.
