Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has backed Harry Kane to re-discover his goalscoring touch and believes this young Spurs side can achieve great things.

After scoring 31 times in all competitions last season Kane has failed to register for Spurs in six Premier League outings this season, though he has twice netted for England in 2016 European Championship qualifying wins over San Marino and Switzerland.

Belgian international Vertonghen is adamant the 22-year-old will return to the kind of form which made him the Premier League's second highest scorer to Sergio Aguero last season.

He told Sky Sports: "He has just been a bit unlucky. He scored for England and in the training sessions he has been doing very well, so the goals will come.

"He's not a guy who will just have one good season and then you never see him again. He has the qualities to perform and the goals will come eventually."

In the mean time Spurs have enjoyed three consecutive wins in all competitions after beating Crystal Palace 1-0 on Sunday thanks to Heung-min Son's third goal in two outings.

The South Korean has made a fine start to life at White Hart Lane and is just one of a number of young players thriving under Mauricio Pochettino.

Vertonghen has been impressed with Tottenham's young starts and believes the north Londoners can go onto big things with the likes of Kane, Son, Ryan Mason, Dele Alli and Eric Dier at the core.

He said: "We looked very solid for 90 minutes [against Crystal Palace]. We played well at the start of the season but we weren't that focused at the end of the games.

"But things are looking very good. We have great young players and a good mix, so there are great things for the team if we can keep working like this. It looks very good for the future."
