Tottenham Hotspur will be without Christian Eriksen, Mousa Dembele, Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason for their Europa League opener at home to Qarabag FK tonight (kick-off 8.05pm).

Spurs kick off their 2015/16 European campaign at home to the Azerbaijani Premier League champions, who lost Scottish league winners Celtic in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League before knocking out Swiss side Young Boys to reach the group stages of the Europa League.

But Mauricio Pochettino will be without Eriksen (knee), Dembele (foot) and Bentaleb (ankle) whilst Mason (knee) was injured in the process of scoring Spurs' winner at Sunderland on Sunday.

Pochettino told the club website: “Christian is progressing well, but not available yet.

“Mousa is out too and we hope Ryan isn’t too long in his recovery, we need to assess him day by day.

“Nabil is out maybe two weeks more. We need to assess him as well, have patience and it’s the same with Ryan.”

With four senior central midfielders out, centre-back Eric Dier is likely to start in one of the two deep lying midfield positions with the Dele Alli and Tom Carroll in contention for starting berths too.

Watford born Carroll has made two substitute appearances in the Premier League already and insists Spurs will be taking the Europa League seriously.

He said: “At the end of the day we’re in the competition to win it.

"I think we’ve got a good enough squad here to do that and after the win on Sunday it gives us an even more positive attitude to go and start off with a win against Qarabag.

“We’ve got a run of home games now and we want a run of wins – that would be the ideal scenario.”
