Enfield Town were denied a victory at Bognor Regis Town after conceding a late equaliser in their 1-1 Ryman Premier Division draw on Saturday.

It was a frustrating end to the game for Bradley Quinton’s side leaving them 20th in the table and still with just one win from their first eight matches of the season.

The first half of Saturday’s match lacked quality with both teams giving the ball away cheaply.

Bognor came closest in the opening 45 minutes through Ollie Pearce but the forward could only fire his effort wide of the target and Stuart Green also failed to test the goalkeeper from his shot.

The Rocks almost opened the scoring at the start of the second half but Pearce’s corner was headed towards goal by Jason Prior and Nathan Livings managed to clear the ball off the line.

Bognor kept the pressure on and went close through Sami El-Abd but his header was saved by Towners goalkeeper Nathan McDonald.

The hosts spurned another big chance to take the lead when Alfie Rutherford’s cross was turned wide at the far post by Prior.

But it was the Towners that struck the opening goal scoring just after the hour mark. The ball was worked into substitute Tyler Campbell and he released Bobby Devyne.

The striker was left unmarked and he punished Bognor Regis by dinking the ball over goalkeeper Grant Smith for the breakthrough.

This sparked Enfield’s best spell of the match but the visitors were unable to take advantage of this by adding a second goal which would have surely clinched the points.

The Rocks then pushed forward in search of an equaliser and their pressure paid off with just two minutes remaining. A cross into the area found Pearce and he fired in a shot which appeared to be heading wide until the unfortunate Ricky Gabriel touched the ball into the net.

It could have been even worse for the Towners though as deep into injury time Prior’s header was cleared off the line by Livings.

The Towners have parted company with midfielder Aryan Tajbakhsh. His last game came at Canvey Island and he made 20 appearances for the team.

Tajbakhsh was at the centre of the club’s points deduction at the end of last season after the club were penalised for playing him when he was due to serve a suspension.

Enfield have brought in former Dulwich Hamlet striker Harry Ottaway and the club are in talks to bring former captain Mark Kirby back to the club. The defender is at Hendon but the Towners have submitted a seven-day approach for him.

Enfield visit Leiston in the league on Wednesday before their FA Cup first qualifying round tie at Billericay Town this Saturday.
