Enfield boxer Frank Buglioni remains on course for a world title bout after winning the vacant WBA Intercontinental Super Middleweight title at Wembley Arena on Friday.

Buglioni was due to face WBA world champion Fedor Chudinov last week but the Russian pulled out at late notice ahead of the fight after suffering a broken nose.

'Wise Guy' Buglioni faced Mexican Fernando Castaneda at short notice and proved too strong for him as he claimed a fifth round stoppage.

The 26-year-old extended his record to 17 wins and a draw from 19 professional contests and is now set to face Chudinov on September 26 at Wembley Arena.

His opponent came in seven pounds heavier and fought as a cruiserweight but the Enfield star was still far too strong for him.

Buglioni said: "He came in overweight as a cruiserweight so it was a very good statement to do a job on someone two weights above me.

"I had prepared for eight weeks to fight Chudinov so it's never easy when you fight a different opponent. But the Mexican was kind of similar in some ways as he was short and stocky.

"It was a nice fight and more of a mindset thing. It was a full dress rehearsal tonight and I came through it unscathed, not injured and ready to rumble for the next one.

"I did the job I needed to do but the most important thing was coming through it without picking up any injuries. I felt it was a good performance but I tend to step my game up against better opponents.

"I've been doing 12 rounds with three different guys twice a week so the rounds aren't a problem for me."

Buglioni will now turn his attention to achieving his dream of winning a world title. He remains philosophical about the frustration of seeing the Chudinov fight postponed at late notice and is already relishing the chance to get his hands on the Russian in a couple of months.

Buglioni, who is currently in Sardinia following his latest win, said: "I can't wait to get in the ring on September 26 and rip that world title belt off him. I think he would let himself down if he pulled out again so I'm fully expecting Chudinov to turn up next time.

"I will have a couple of weeks off, recoup and then get my mind focused and get straight back into camp. I want to be nice and fresh and hit the ground running and hit it hard.

"I have obviously had the ideal full dress rehearsal with my training camp and I will go into the next fight full of confidence."

Tickets for the Chudinov fight will go on sale at www.TeamBuglioni.com in the next couple of weeks and everyone who buys a ticket will receive a free T-shirt.
