Enfield & Haringey twins Laviai and Lina Nielsen celebrated winning golds at the European Junior Championships in Sweden at the weekend.

Laviai won the women's 400m after clocking the second fastest time of her career in 52.58. Lina finished eighth after suffering from a cold.

Laviai tweeted: "European Junior Champion!! Wow wow wow, I am overwhelmed! Thank you everyone so much!! I can't believe it!"

The twins followed this up on Sunday with victory in the 400m relay to help Great Britain equal their best tally of 11 European Junior golds.

Cheriece Hylton, Lily Beckford and the Nielsen twins finished more than three seconds clear of runners-up Italy as they recorded a winning time of 3.34.36.

Laviai said: "It was such a massive relief because it was really intimidating in the call room, but we all knew we could win it if we pulled out our best performances. To actually do it is an amazing feeling. The success we’ve had over the past two or three days has really pushed us on because we really wanted to add to that.

"After the 400m individual I saw that Lina was gutted and I said to her we’re going to come back stronger, come back stronger and bring one home for her."

Lina said: "I was thinking after the 400m this is the worst thing that could ever have happened to fall ill at the wrong time. It just had to get better and this has topped it off and when Laviai crossed the line I knew we had a gold medal. I screamed so loud. I lost my voice a little but there we go!"

Enfield's Callum Wilkinson smashed the national junior record and set a new personal best finishing seventh in the 10,000m walk final in a time of 41.34.63.
