Lewis Holtby has left Tottenham Hotspur to join Hamburg for an undisclosed fee following a successful loan spell with the Bundesliga club last season.

Holtby spent the majority of the 2014/15 season on loan at Hamburg, playing 22 times in the league without scoring, and the German club have now exercised an option to make the move permanent.

The 24-year-old made 42 appearances for Spurs since joining from Shalke for £1.5 million in 2013, but never established himself as a mainstay at White Hart Lane.

Holtby is the second midfielder to leave Spurs this week after Brazil international Paulinho joined Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande for £9.8 million on Tuesday.
