Enfield Town boss Bradley Quinton hopes to tie down as many of last season’s squad as possible after six players agreed contracts for the 2015/16 campaign.

Defenders Jordan Lockie, Ryan Doyle, Joe Stevens and Tyler Campbell have followed in the footsteps of Stan Muguo and Claudiu Vilcu by putting pen-to-paper on deals for next season and more are expected to follow suit.

However, captain Mark Kirby has re-joined Isthmian Premier Division rivals Hendon after spending almost six years at the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium.

Kirby joined the Towners from Hendon in October 2009 having previously been on the books at Barnet, Hillingdon Borough and Belstone.

Injury brought a premature end to his campaign, with metatarsal damage seeing the defender play his final game for the club against Leatherhead in March.

Quinton is delighted to see a number of key members of last season’s squad remain for next season after inviting every player to return for pre-season with the Towners.

He said: “It is a great nucleus we are keeping which is fantastic.

“It is great to have the squad back and I will be talking to a few I want to send out on loan too.

“I have got a good 90 to 95 per cent that want to be part of it.”

Addressing the decision of Kirby returning to Earlsmead, Quinton stated: “If people want to leave that is fine – I have not pushed anyone out the door.

“It was his (Kirby’s) decision to go, not mine. He told me through text which I am not over the moon with.”

Midfielder Muguo filled in as skipper in Kirby’s absence and Quinton confirmed the Supporters’ Player of the Year and joint Players’ Player of the Year would assume that role on a full-time basis for next season.

He said of the former Harlow Town man: “He is a very good player to have in any team; he is the first name down on my teamsheet every week, he trains so hard, wants to win, he is always there with the younger players putting an arm around them, he looks after himself and every week he is an eight-and-a-half or nine out of ten.”

And the former Tottenham Hotspur trainee is already hard at work trying to re-enforce the squad after ultimately finishing sixth in the Premier Division last term.

At the top of his in-tray is a new goalkeeper, with the excellent Nathan McDonald set to return to parent club Braintree Town following a season-long loan stay.

“We are still working on trying to keep him (McDonald),” revealed Quinton.

“Anthony Page has stepped up to the mark but we will have to sign another goalkeeper. I am speaking to three or four very good goalkeepers and two of them approached me about wanting to be part of this, so goalkeeper is a situation I have not had to worry about.”

Asked if he would like to make a definitive number of additions this summer, Quinton replied: “We are looking in all positions so we can have two for every shirt and people can fight for their place.

“We want to get the best out of everyone.”
