Harry Kane's stunning personal season was not capped by the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year award as the Tottenham Hotspur star finished second to Chelsea's Eden Hazard.

The Spurs striker has enjoyed a mesmeric rise from being on the periphery at White Hart Lane to being head coach Mauricio Pochettino's first-choice striker.

And the Chingford-born frontman's 30 goals for Spurs this season were not enough to beat Chelsea playmaker Hazard to the main award after the Belgian guided Jose Mourinho's side to the Premier League title.

Chelsea skipper John Terry finished third in the voting, with more than 300 journalists polled for their stand-out Premier League player this season.

Kane has already been voted the PFA Players' Young Player of the Year and been included in the PFA's Team of the Year.

Winner Hazard will be honoured with the prestigious FWA accolade, which has been running since 1948, at a gala dinner in London on May 21.
