Enfield golfer Harry Casey claimed his first Alps Tour victory by winning the Gosser Open in Austria on Sunday, moving up to sixth on the Order of Merit.

The 21-year-old, who belong to Enfield Golf Club, finished 12 under par at the Erzherzog Johann Golf Club to shoot up the Alps Tour Order of Merit and collect a cheque for €5,800 in the process.

Reflecting on his win, Casey commented “I played good today. I knew if I can make birdie on the last I had a chance, at least a shot at a play-off. “My final putt went over a tier and straight in and fortunately for me 12-under was good enough to win. It was a great feeling and I am really buzzing.”

The first round saw Casey shoot a three under par 69 to leave him tied for 11th on the leaderboard.

Seventy in round two left him five under overall before a stunning seven under in the final round catapulted Casey to victory.

And Casey burst to the turn in 32 strokes (four under) on the final day of the Gösser Open and starting the final round four strokes back, quickly overturned the deficit to take a share of the lead heading into the back nine.

Three solid par fours to start the back nine were followed by a dramatic eagle three when Casey chipped in to take control of the tournament.

Fellow countryman Andrew Cooley and Dutchman Darius Van Driel were chasing all the way but in the end the Alps Tour rookie saved his best for the final hole.

Two solid shots into the 18th green left Casey 35 feet away which he dramatically holed to take the title and with it his third professional victory since turning pro only last year.

He now heads over the mountains to Italy for the Open Colli Berici near Verona for the next stop on the Alps Tour schedule. The event begins on Thursday, May 14.
