Winchmore Hill got off to the ideal start as they started the new Middlesex County Cricket League Division Two season, picking up a stylish 110-run success over Barnes.

Put into bat, Hill soon made Barnes regret that decision as they set about building a sizeable total.

De La Rey Terblanche (60) and Mark Barrell (71) starred for the hosts with the bat, guiding Winchmore Hill to 253 all out.

Seventy-eight from Chris Chambers in reply suggested Winchmore Hill would be in for a tough afternoon in the field but they accounted for their visitors for 143.

Enfield began the new Middlesex County Cricket League Division Two campaign in disappointing fashion, going down by five wickets at home to Acton on Saturday.

Put into bat after losing the toss, the home side were removed for a paltry 96 after just 38.5 overs, leaving Acton in pole position to secure the win.

The visitors made heavier weather of reaching the required total of 97 than they should have but still got home with five wickets in hand.

Botany Bay shot to the top of the fledgling Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League Championship table on the opening weekend of the season after a seven-wicket win over Chorleywood.

Electing to bat first, visitors Chorleywood faltered early on and it was not until Peter Dunning (42) and Callum Neal (43) got to the crease that the score began to move along.

However, only two further batsmen reached double figures for the away side, who slumped to 207 for nine.

Tim Richards returned figures of four for 38, claiming key wickets at the top of the Chorleywood order.

Ninety from opener Kasey Harris – including 14 fours – set the tone for the Bay innings, with Paul Summerskill (38 not out) and Ben Howgego (27) contributing to a total of 209 for three as the home side made light work of sealing the win.

Northampton Exiles continued their preparations for the new Saracens Herts League season with a 60-run friendly win over Old Minchendenians on Sunday.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, the Exiles put up a target of 223 all out from 28.5 overs.

However, Old Minchendenians struggled to score consistently in reply. And despite resistance from the middle order, where Asad Ali (49) and M Solanki (45) top scored, could only reach 163 for nine.
