Frank Buglioni says he would like to display what he has learned in the build-up to meeting Lee Markham on Saturday but is predicting another short, sharp victory.

The 26-year-old (16-1), who stopped Croatian Ivan Jukic after just 85 seconds in the first defence of his WBO European super middleweight title last time out, returned from a six-week training camp in Dublin with trainers Steve and Paschal Collins on Saturday evening.

And having made light work of Jukic at the O2 Arena in February, the Enfield fighter is looking for a repeat performance when he meets Grays’ Markham (14-2) in the latest instalment of a rivalry which has lasted since their amateur days.

“If I land one on him flush early it will be a very early night again,” stated Buglioni. “I am landing punches with more accuracy and power than ever before now but I expect Lee Markham to be sensible in his approach and to be a tough guy but hopefully it will be another easy night’s work for me.”

He continued: “I have watched a lot of Lee Markham and he does do the basics well. He is tough, durable and dedicated.

“He thinks this is his stepping stone to the world title fights but I can assure you that is not what is going to happen. I am going to beat the best Lee Markham on the night,” vowed Buglioni, who admitted he had been pleased to keep under wraps the improvements made in the build-up to his first-round stoppage against Jukic.

Markham came out on top in the last meeting of the two but Buglioni stressed previous encounters have little bearing on the present day. He said: “We have both moved on an proven ourselves. Hopefully he will have improved enough to make sure it is a good fight.”

Saturday’s bout will be Buglioni’s fourth since leaving Mark and Jimmy Tibbs to train with former world champion Steve Collins and brother ‘Packie’ and the super middleweight is adamant he is improving with each training camp.

“It has been the best camp to date,” he said. “They just keep getting better. All the little corrections Steve and Paschal are making are starting to pay off and I have not got to concentrate on the basics anymore, I can work on extra shots and different combinations to improve my all-round game.”

He continued: “To start with they took me back to basics; making sure every shot was correct and my balance was right. I took one step back now I have taken two steps forward. Now they have added additional things and the improvements were really noticeable to me against Ivan Jukic.”

As part of the regime, Buglioni travels to the Celtic Warrior Gym in Dublin six weeks in advance of fight night to focus solely on his next opponent.

It is a tough, regimented and incredibly disciplined lifestyle but the 6ft 1in ‘Wise Guy’ knows he has reaped the rewards of a single-track mindset under the tutelage of the Collins brothers.

He explained: “I have a girlfriend and she comes over and visits me and I go back most weekends too.

“It is hard but I think we do have to make these sacrifices in life to get to the top and it makes you appreciate the time you have with loved ones even more.”

And Buglioni is already mapping out his path to global domination, although his eyes are firmly set on the British and Commonwealth titles currently, with Callum Smith and Rocky Fielding to contest the British super-middleweight strap at a later date.

Buglioni stated: “Frank Warren has a big card at Upton Park on June 27 and if I come through this I will be looking to be on that card fighting for the Commonwealth title. But for now, all I am concentrating on is stopping Lee Markham.”
