Brimsdown’s five-month unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday after a 2-1 home defeat to Kent Athletic in South Midlands Division Two at the Goldsdown Stadium.

The side had not been beaten since October but a goal either side of the break consigned them to a rare defeat.

Junior Fatai-Somuyiwa created the Limers’ first opportunity of the game. After some good work on the right, his low cross couldn’t find Jude Stirling, who was alone in the box.

With chances limited for both sides, the first goal was vital. And the visitors opened the scoring after 32 minutes when a cross picked out Pat Daly and he finished from close range.

Brimsdown had a decent opportunity to equalise ten minutes after the restart when Ralston Gabriel fired his effort over the crossbar.

Not long after Abs Thompson looked to be through on goal. Just as he tried to shoot, the ball bobbled up making him miscue his shot.

The hosts were unlucky not to level the contest on the hour mark from Thompson’s corner which was headed towards goal by Ola Akinwande but his effort was blocked on the line by teammate Stirling.

The Limers were made to pay for not taking their chances in the 79th minute. Against the run of play, Daly got the ball, skipped passed the Brimsdown defence and confidently fired home his second goal of the match.

Brimsdown responded almost immediately with a cross from Fatai-Somuyiwa tapped in by Stirling.

But the home side could not find an equaliser as their unbeaten run was brought to a disappointing end.

Brimsdown travel to Ealing Town in the league this weekend.
