Proud Enfield Town boss Bradley Quinton insists there is no pressure on the Towners despite moving into the Isthmian Premier Division play-off places for the first time on Saturday.

A 2-0 win over Peacehaven & Telscombe was enough to see Town move up one place into fifth, the final play-off berth.

But Quinton does not subscribe to the theory there is more pressure on his side now than when they were chasing the play-offs.

He said: "There is no pressure on the players. From where we were at the start of the season and where anyone would think we would finish [to where we are now] is remarkable.

"There is no pressure and there would be no pressure even if we were top of the league," continued Quinton. "It is down to them (the players) that were are here, every single one of them.

"You have got to believe in your own ability and who knows? Even if we lose the next seven I will still be proud of them."

The former Braintree Town midfielder continued: "With seven games to go we have got to believe in ourselves. It is down to these kinds of games [we have reached the play-offs]. I would have been so pleased to get into the play offs and to do well because they deserve it; it would be such a turn around.

Victory against The Magpies was secured thanks to late second-half strikes from Claudiu Vilcu and Bobby Devyne, though the Towners had the Sussex side on the rack earlier in the game without taking their chances.

The first arrived in the 80th minute when Vilcu crashed home from 20 yards after Joe Ellul's header was held up in the wind, before Devyne tucked home an 86th-minute penalty to make the points safe.

"It was a tough place to go and a lot of teams would have just given in," stated Quinton. "The boys looked after themselves really well and put a foot in when they wanted to but got the ball down and played football when they could too.

"But the boys dug in and made chance after chance and it took until late on in the game for us to wear them down and it could have been a lot more."

Five minutes into the second half, Peacehaven's Dan McLaughlin earned a second booking for a foul on Jordan Lockie but Quinton felt the dismissal did his side no favours.

He explained: "Them going down to ten men did not affect us, we put on another player and went for it. There were a few penalty appeals which were not given so it could have been four or five.

"They were just kicking lumps out of Aryan Tajbakhsh and Stanley Muguo but they handled it well. I have got no questions regarding the officials; they did what they had to do."

The transfer window closes on March for Isthmian League clubs and having lost captain Mark Kirby for the foreseeable future, Quinton is not ruling out any new additions.

He mused: "It will be a squad job for these next seven games and with Mark Kirby doing his metatarsal I will maybe look for one or two [more plaayers] in the next week before the window closes."

Kirby is expected to miss the rest of the regular season, which ends on April 25, but Quinton still holds out some hope the centre-back could be available for any potential play-off clashes.

The Towners travelled to 17th-placed Lewes on Wednesday looking to strengthen their grip on fifth place, which following Saturday's victory was only theirs by a point over Leiston.

Sixth-placed Leiston travel to Billericay Town tonight (Monday).
