Tottenham Hotspur will travel to Australia to play a friendly match against Sydney FC.

Mauricio Pochettino's side will run out against the two-time A-League champions at the ANZ Stadium on Saturday, May 30 - just six days after the end of the Premier League season.

The club has been invited to visit the city as part of a week of sporting events and cultural activities taking place in Sydney.

Other events taking place include the opening game of the State of Origin rugby league series, and the Vivid Sydney light, music and sound festival.

Sydney FC are currently second in the A-League after 20 games, one point behind leaders Perth Glory but having played a game more.

This wil be Tottenham's third visit to Australia, following trips in 1976 and 1985.

Players making the trip will also take part in autograph signings, supporter evenings and football coaching courses in a part of the world where Spurs has a rapidly increasing fanbase.

Pochettino said: “Our match against Sydney FC is sure to be hard-fought and entertaining, with the A-League becoming stronger every year and attracting some big name players, so we would like to thank the New South Wales Government and Destination New South Wales for the chance to visit your beautiful city.”

Club chairman Daniel Levy added: "The visit to Sydney will provide the club with a perfect opportunity to engage with a growing fanbase across the Asia-Pacific region and an extremely passionate Official Supporters Club in Oz Spurs.

“The trip will also serve to further support our relationship with AIA, who have a huge presence in the Australian market, and we look forward to activating our partnership during our visit."

Kick-off is scheduled for 7.30pm local time/10.30am UK time.
