Enfield Town's play-off hopes suffered a blow on Saturday as the Towners lost 2-0 at home to Leiston in the Isthmian Premier Division.

Defeat at the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium leaves Bradley Quinton's side in 12th position, seven points behind Metropolitan Police in fifth, having played one game more.

Visitors Leiston were on top from the outset and could have twice broken the deadlock early on; Gareth Heath whipping a free kick narrowly over the bar and Claudiu Vilcu intercepting well from John Sands.

Enfield hit back through Bobby Devyne, who forced a smart stop from goalkeeper Alex Rossis. Debutant Leon Wilson fired narrowly after for the hosts as the chances flowed.

Tyler Campbell passed up an excellent opportunity for Town with half an hour gone, sliding in to meet Corey Whitely's cross but finding Rossis in the way.

And Town paid for that miss almost immediately as Sands put Leiston in front by meeting Stuart Boardley's inch-perfect centre. Sands was denied a penalty and booked for simulation soon after as Town went in 1-0 down at the break.

Nathan Livings almost drew the home side level but found an inspired Rossis in the way of his deflected shot, whilst Vilcu and Campbell were also denied by the former Town Reserves stopper.

In the 77th minute Leiston finally killed the game off. Darren Mills fired in a shot which Leon Ottley-Gooch got the slightest touch on to divert home.

Town travel to Margate on Saturday.
