New Enfield Town midfielder Leon Wilson credits his former manager at Brimsdown, Marvin Walker, with helping him take a sizeable leap up the football pyramid.

The path between Spartan South Midlands Division Two outfit Brimsdown and Isthmian Premier Division play-off hopefuls Enfield has become a popular trade route recently, with Wilson following in the footsteps of Ricky Gabriel and Bobby Devyne since the turn of the year.

And having made the step up, the 26-year-old heaped praise on his former boss at Brimsdown. "He liked the look of a few of us and it has gone from there really," explained Wilson. "I had been out of football before going to Marvin. I felt I wanted to play football again and he made it happen.

"I got overweight but the way Marvin does his training; before pre-season, in pre-season and during the season, helped me get back on track. I have been with Marvin and his assistant Aaron Archer for a few years but this year was the key to what has been going on at Brimsdown."

Wilson and Walker had previously worked together at Essex Senior side Wadham Lodge before making the move to The Goldsdown Stadium in the summer.

The former Tottenham Hotspur youngster has yet to make his debut for the Towners following two postponements in a week but believes he can handle the step up from the ninth to the fourth tier of the national non-league system.

"I feel I have stepped into a different league all together," admitted Wilson. "The biggest difference is the fitness. The football is not that different; it is challenging but it is the same game whatever the level. I will be fine."

With the Towners five points shy of the Isthmian Premier Division play-off places after seeing Saturday's clashes with Lewes lost to the weather, Wilson knows he has joined Bradley Quinton's side at an exciting time.

He enthused: "Hopefully I can help them get into the play-offs. If I can help them, that would be great. My focus is to help Enfield but I want to be a lot fitter for pre season. If I can do that, I will be ready to make an impact next season."
