Enfield Town Ladies were left frustrated after their performance was not rewarded with any points following a 1-0 loss against MK Dons on Sunday.

The Dons won 1-0 thanks to a Heather McDonnell strike, enough to move them top of the FA Women's Premier League South East Division One, whilst the Towners remain in fifth position.

Reflecting on defeat, manager Kyri Neocleous took the positives from defeat. He said: "We have picked up three serious, long-term injuries and two knocks today (Sunday) and had to make two changes within the first 15 minutes; so the girls were fantastic in their adaptability.

"Today’s result has come down to an isolated incident where the referee has not stopped the game for a clear free kick, where there was no advantage and MK Dons have subsequently scored when regaining possession."

He continued: "Once we settled into the game everyone has put in a real shift today and we were unlucky not to score with some of the chances we’ve had.

"I said to them in the changing room after the game if we put in performances like we have done in the last two weeks we will be very difficult to beat and that is a testament to the work rate and the football we are now playing as a team. We can only look forward.

"The performances are there and there is a clear understanding of how Enfield is now playing as a team and the results will surely turn round in the near future."

The Towners ladies face Denham United in the cup on Sunday.
