Tottenham Hotspur have offered striker Emmanuel Adebayor to MLS clubs in an attempt to get the striker off their books, according to The Times.

The 30-year-old has not played for Spurs in more than two months after being granted permission to return to Togo on compassionate leave.

And the former Arsenal and Manchester City forward is now deemed surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane, particularly in light of Harry Kane's excellent form this season.

Adebayor, who last played in the 2-1 defeat against Stoke City on November 9, has now been offered to MLS sides as Spurs seek to offload him.

The Togolese is believed to earn in excess of £100,000 a week at Spurs and would be a 'designated player' should he move to MLS.

Designated players' salaries are allowed to exceed a team's salary cap, meaning MLS sides can compete with the rest of the international market for big-name players.

Adebayor has scored twice in 12 outings this term.
