St. John’s Preparatory and Senior School’s Under-15s football team have reached the last eight of the ESFA National Schools' knockout competition.

In the first leg of the competition, St. John’s Senior School travelled to Meopham School in Kent where they won 5-2. Victory over Meopham School was a reversal of fortunes for St John's, who last year lost 4-1 against the same school.

St. John’s were then drawn at home to Lingfield Notre Dame of south Surrey in the last 32. In a tough encounter, a late goal from striker Kennedy Dunn gave St. John’s a 1-0 victory.

Thomas More Catholic School of Blackheath were the visitors in the last 16. In another tense and closely-fought game St John's left it late, with Tadashi Yoskioka cutting in from the left to score the winner in freezing conditions.

As a result of their win over Thomas More, St. John’s are due to travel to Stowmarket to play Debenham School in the quarter-finals.

The side managed by Jason Hodgson and Ian Russell and have defied their expectation to become one of the final eight schools left from 91 entrants.
